4th of July

We had a great time at the lake for our 4th of July celebration.  Both the boys loved being on the boat this year!

First time on a jet ski for Caleb!

Silly boy...Caleb LOVED all the excitement and the attention!

I couldn't find my real sunglasses...
I LOVE to wakeboard...though I'm not very good at it.  :)

Sweet, happy baby toddler
Poor thing was tuckered out from all the boating...and decided to take a nap on the floor!

Happy brothers!

All of us, minus mom and dad!

Kid's Day Out

I decided I was ready for a little bit of a break one morning a week for six weeks this summer, so I signed the boys up for Kid's Day Out at a local church!  I knew the boys would be fine...they adjust really well to new situations (which is such a blessing).

Here they are all ready to go!!!

I couldn't get him to turn around for the camera.  :)

A little pre "Kid's Day Out" trike ride/tractor push.

It has been great so far.  They've had tons of fun and I've had time to run errands by myself!  It's been a win-win situation for all!  :)

Because I have Neglected This Blog

Here are just a few recent pictures...

Some pretend play...perhaps he'll follow in Papa's footsteps after all!

Our little adventurer

Of course he just HAD to sit in the puddle.  :)

Caleb and Uncle Jaydan

Silly boy!

Brothers gotta tackle (apparently)

Just like Daddy...he LOVES ice cream!

This is Caleb's latest pose.  I'm trying to figure out where he learned this from!  :)

Happy Father's Day!

To My Best Friend and the Father of my Children:

I am amazed as I watch our boys.  It is almost comical to watch Caleb imitate you and Noah imitate Caleb.  They are both absolutely crazy about you.  They have such a special bond with you and anxiously await your arrival each evening.  And most of all, they love to wrestle with you.  Even though it makes me nervous to the point where I sometimes have to leave the room, I know they are in safe hands with you and are having a blast!

I thank God for you each day, not just because I am head-over-heels for you or that you are super-handsome.  Or even that you treat me way better than I deserve to be treated most of the time (all things I am of course also thankful for).  I thank God for the example you are in our boy's lives.

Through your example, they see compassion.  They see servant leadership.  They see integrity.  They see love put into action.  Through your example, they see Christ.

Although we are both imperfect and have individual struggles, you are the perfect father to our children.  You've got it right...you point them to our Heavenly Father in the way that you live each day.

You refuse to stand on the sidelines and watch our boys grow.  You are crazy in love with them.  You are with us every single second you are not working or traveling.  You make them (and me) your utmost priority.  I have yet to meet a man with so much integrity and compassion as you!

So today I want to honor the amazing Daddy you are to our boys.  Nothing is more important in this life than pointing our children towards Christ.  Thank you for striving to be more like Him each and every day...

I am equally as blessed to have been raised by parents who pointed me and my siblings to Christ.  My dad is an amazing man of God who has one of the most compassionate hearts of anyone I know.  He instilled in me a love for missions through his passion for the people of Zimbabwe.

My dad and me in Zimbabwe in 2005 (my fourth trip...probably about his 18th).  He forgot his razor.  :)

Happy Father's Day!

An Unexpected Trip

Two days after my sister's wedding, a huge tornado ripped through Joplin.  The company that Kevin works for also has a nursing home in Joplin that was hit.  They asked for volunteers to come and help at the facility, so Kevin left that Monday.  He wasn't sure how long he would be gone, but he figured it would be a day or two at the most.

The devastation was unbelievable.  I have NEVER seen anything like this...

That next Tuesday, huge storms ripped through the midwest yet again.  We weren't in danger here, but they issued another tornado warning in Joplin and Kevin had to take cover in the hotel stairwell.  I think I just about had a nervous breakdown with all of the craziness, so when Kevin said he thought he would be in Joplin for the rest of the week, I packed the kids up and we went to the lakehouse.

It's about an hour and a half away from the lakehouse, but at least Kevin could come back in the evenings and see us.  My mom came up the next day and watched the boys while my cousin Andy and I went to meet Kevin in Joplin.  Because we didn't get to the safety training in time due to traffic, we couldn't go out into the affected areas with Samaritan's Purse.  We worked in a warehouse sorting food donations instead.

Even with all the craziness, we still had lots of fun at the lakehouse.

Feeding the turtles

Eating who-knows-what

Caleb was so excited about the turtles!

Noah would have jumped in had we not been hanging on to him.  The kid has no fear.

Lola and her angel boy

As we were getting ready to leave, we left the garage door open while we were packing the car.  Noah found his way to the top of the garage stairs and jumped (not fell) down the 3 stairs.  He landed face first on the concrete floor.  You can see in this picture his swollen and bruised nose, busted lip, and bruised forehead.  Poor baby!  We were SO thankful it wasn't any worse and we didn't have to take him to the hospital.

It was an eventful week, to say the least, and it was good to get home!
